find-design has teamed up with Creative Cape Town in support of Cape Town for World Design Capital.
Creative Cape Town has been driving this process for some time now with great initiatives such as the Creative Cape Town Clusters which provide a platform for networking between dynamic people in Cape Town’s creative industries, stimulating innovative partnerships for economic and social development. The first meeting was launched by guest speaker Ravi Naidoo (Design Indaba) and has since grown from strength to strength.

To meet the demand for networking and information sharing, Creative Cape Town has started monthly breakfasts for small groups of creatives. The idea is to invite two people from three creative companies and give them the space to network with other creatives from divergent sectors. Previous speakers have inlcuded members from idoidea, Membrane & Temo Consulting/Brown Bag Studio.

One of the main projects is the promotion of the World Design Captial 2014 Bid. This prestigious status is designated biennially by the International Council of Societies of Industrial Design (ICSID) to cities that are dedicated to using design for social, cultural and economic development. This title will give Cape Town a chance to showcase its achievements and aspirations through a year-long programme of design-led events and activities as World Design Capital designees Seoul and Helsinki will do in this year and in 2012 respectively. The World Design Capital is a city promotion project celebrating the merits of design. It seeks to highlight the accomplishments of cities that are truly leveraging design as a tool to improve the social, cultural and economic life of cities, throughout a yearlong programme of design-related events.

So, what will you be doing, in terms of design, by 2014, to transform our city economically, socially and culturally? What is your project or product? What can you do for Cape Town?

Register your interest with us – and help us put together a successful bid to make Cape Town the World Design Capital for 2014.

Designing solutions to such broad issues requires collaboration across the creative disciplines and we at find-design aim to help promote our awesome creative asset, not only in Cape Town, but in South Africa as a whole.

More info on the next cluster meeting can be found here.
