These entries were judged under 3 categories: professional, emerging & student. They successfully "showcased the skills and knowledge in the furniture design acquired (The Design Stage) and to showcase those innovative furniture designs of high aesthetic and technical quality (The Manufacturing Stage)."
Professional Category:
First Prize - Aram Lello for his Community Bench sociail seating solution. Community Bench is an easily adjustable and multi-functional bench that works to encourage social interactions. The design is such that the material options extend to wood, plastic and aluminium.

Second Prize - Adriana Schütz for The Sit In crate seating. Designed for Mielie, the Sit In takes recycled milk crates, turns them upside down and adds a “shack chic” touch.
The Madoda stool comprises an upside down milk crate with a comfortable cushion and slip cover in bright colours, characteristic of Mielie. Madoda refers to a Xhosa tradition whereby the best seat on the house is reserved for the madoda, the respected old man.

Third Prize - Aram Lello for his The Verhext bookshelf / stool design. This design is a bookcase designed for open spaces and small rooms. Can be used attached to the wall or in the middle of a room. The modules can be of various colors to create a lively and dynamic area. All modules are identical and can also be used as stools for a moment of relaxation.

Emerging Designer Category:
First Prize - Pedersen and Lennard for the now infamous Bucket Stool.

Second Prize - Helen Paul for The Wobble turned stool.

Third Prize - Jaimie Stone and Taryn Galloway of Integrate Designs for The Crate Matemulti-functional, modular storage system. By simply placing a cushion on top, the crate box becomes a very comfortable seat. Or add a small drawer below and you've got a place to store clothes, toys or stationery.
By adding long pallet-type tops to the crate boxes it becomes a work or play surface. A long cushion on top of crates placed next to each other makes it a bench with storage space below. It can even be turned into a bed, ideal for a quick snooze or when a friend stays over.

Student Category:
First Prize - Dane Lategan for The Beehive.

Second Prize - David Roberts for The Vector.

Third Prize - Fiona Stansfield for The Pipeline Recliner. This multi-functional chair uses layers of marine plyboard and recycled PVC pipes. The flat base of the chair makes it the ideal lounger, or it can easily be flipped around to become a rocking chair.

Find-design also decided to throw their hat into the ring with a multi-functional seating solution, but sadly, it did not make the grade. The Lean Chair can be configured from single to multi seating arrangements, a day-bed or storage.
