Swedish design on SA soil

Two final year Swedish furniture design students have teamed  South African craft skill with bespoke design to create a wonderful range of furniture.
Tor Palm and Mattias Rask, from the Carl Malmsten furniture studies program in Stockholm, engaged the services of Furntech a South African incubation and support centre for the furniture industry, to collaborate with ceramics studio potters workshop and various metalworkers to manufacture their designs.

They spent four weeks in Cape Town, South Africa, working together with the various organizations and individuals they were in contact with, developing a number of prototypes which they wanted to carry a strong feeling of South African culture. The result is: a knock-down stool and sideboard, along with a selection of hand-decorated ceramic lamps. They combined materials and worked with colors and techniques similar to those in South African handicraft.
