Haldane Martin reveals his latest prototype for a new vertical garden system.
The Wallflower vertical garden?? is a modular planter system that has been designed to enable city dwellers to grow their own organic vegetables and other plants on sunny walls where ground space is limited and thereby contribute to the greening of the urban environment. The nested fractal pattern is made of three sizes of wall mounted containers that integrates hexagonal trellising and a branching, drip irrigation system. The planters are made from recycled roto-moulded polyethylene plastic and the mounting hardware is made from galvanized and powder coated mild steel.

The rendered image shows the system installed on the award winning Design Indaba 10 x 10 community housing project designed by Luyanda Mpahlwa.

Haldane Martin will be revealing the first working prototypes of Wallflower vertical garden?? on Salon Privé at Design Indaba Expo 2011, and is planning to fund the tooling up for the project using Kickstarter, an innovative funding platform for creatives.
